28 Aug A little world tour with today’s map hearts
Where in the World with six0six design
Here is a little tour with me of some of the map hearts for today’s orders. You can see all the different locations that people choose for the map heart artworks, from Vermont to Wallingford.
I always love seeing which locations get paired together, when they are so far apart I always wonder how did those people meet. What brought them together and through all their differences, in culture and language they found love.
Each map artwork is first personalised with the names and dates, then I hand punch the holes for the stitching. The map artwork is then hand sewed with the red embroidery thread that will join our two locations together.
The maps are sourced from my vast collection of vintage maps and atlases and then hand cut using a template and scalpel.
I still use the same scalpel handle that I first bought when I studied architecture many moons ago. Although these days I have lots of spare ones for when it gets lost under a giant pile of maps!
There are several setting and pressing stages before the map artwork is ready to depart for its new home.
Each artwork that leaves the studio is hand wrapped by me. A little note is added telling the new owner about where their maps came from and how it was all made.
