04 Oct Book Review: Becoming by Michelle Obama
My Book Review
Read June 2019
I didn’t know that much about Michelle Obama before starting to read this book, apart from the general information on her as first lady and that she seemed pretty funny on those episodes of Ellen in CVS.
I had a pretty positive impression of her but this book is about so much more than her years in the White House.
I really enjoyed the background story of her younger years, growing up in Chicago, piano lessons, her stories about her brother and her first forays into politics.
I mean who am I kidding I loved the entire book! Start to finish. I listened to this book through the BorrowBox app which is in association with your local library and Michelle Obama narrates it herself. Her voice is so hypnotic, smooth, intelligent and so warm.
And her words are as brave, intelligent and as witty and generous as the lady herself. This biography is not only a wonderful reflection of a life well lived (and one that continues to be so) and a fascinating insight into the sacrifices entailed in being a part of political history.
And if she can be hopeful for the future of America then so can I.
