23 Oct What buying handmade means to YOU
Shopping Online
When you decide to buy something from an online store you will have questions. In this blog post I will answer some of those questions before you ask them! I am sure there are those I will have missed so please leave me a comment if there is something I left out.
Before you place your order there are 5 key things you should know.
1 – Who am I buying from?
2 – Where is it made and from what materials?
3 – How long will it take to get to me?
4 – How do I pay?
5 – What happens if something goes wrong?
So lets answer those questions for you. And by the way, if you aren’t asking those questions, you should be.
Who is six0six design
To put it simply six0six design is me, Vanessa Scott-Hayward and my studio assistant. Everything that you buy is designed and made by me in my studio in Co. Kildare, Ireland. Find out more about me here
All of the main supplies for my products like the pencils, pens, gift boxes, watercolour card and the packaging materials are all sourced from Irish companies. Many of whom source from eco friendly suppliers.
I use the highest quality base materials to create all my products which is why in the many years (and the thousands of pencils I have made) I have never had a single customer return an order unhappy with the quality. This attention to detail is something that is central to my company ethos.
So when you purchase a gift from six0six design you can trust that you are buying something 100% handmade in Ireland to the highest of standards
Delivery and Making Times
As all the designs are made by hand making times can vary. Generally for unpersonalised items they ship out 1/2 working days after payment has been received. For personalised orders it can take up to a week. I have a full overview of how long all the items in my shop take to both make and to arrive with you below.

Also don’t forget that at Christmas time it always takes longer. Not simply because us makers are A LOT busier but also because the postal service is busier too. So I would recommend you start thinking about your Christmas shopping in early November and have everything ordered by at least the third week of November.
Payment
There are two methods you can use to pay for your order on six0six design.
Paypal for those with an account, paypal is a world recognised service that gives you as the buyer great protection. It also means that you are not giving your card details to a website that you don’t know.
Stripe for those who wish to use their debit or credit card directly on the site. I recently introduced this service to my site as many people do not have a paypal account. Whenever you are entering your card details on a site make sure that you check the website is secure. You can do that by checking the url. It should say https instead of http. That little ‘s’ lets you know its an SSL certified site. Here is a good article on why all websites should add the s
Stripe is very secure to use as none of the card details are stored on my site and all card numbers are encrypted by the company. You can read up more on it here
Returns
I take great pride in my work and I hope that you are 100% satisfied with your order.
However, if you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason simply notify me by email, send the piece back in good/unused condition within 14 days and I will refund you your purchase price and the original shipping fee. Note, however, that I will not refund the price of return shipping.
PLEASE NOTE this does not apply to personalised orders which cannot be returned or refunded unless damaged.
If your item arrives damaged in any way I will of course accept a return, please take photos of the damage and email me within 48 hours of you receiving the item so I can get you a new one asap or refund you the cost of your purchase.
Customs Fees
Please note that I do not pay any duties, customs fees, or any other associated fees. These are the responsibility of the buyer if their country charges these types of fees. Please be aware of customs information including any fees that may be incurred on your end before purchasing. This information can be found at your local post office or on the web. Every country varies.
If you have any questions or concerns about these policies please let me know and I’ll be happy to explain further.
Customs fees don’t affect you if you are purchasing from within the same country (Ireland) or within the EU. And most of my items will fall under any customs threshold.
I hope that answered any questions you might have had about what buying handmade means to you.
From my perspective, your orders directly support my business. And so your custom means the world to me. I greatly appreciate each and every order I get and believe that the extra personal touch that all my designs get help me to stand out from the crowd.
Thank you for supporting my handmade business
Best Wishes
Vanessa Scott-Hayward
